Sweep. They are the last group of riders on the trail. You don’t want to be behind them. They pick up any ribbon placed on the trail (navigation aids you need will be gone) and can guide you to the nearest road if you are falling behind. They might be able to assist you with repairs using YOUR TOOLS & YOUR SPARES for your bike. |

Sweep riders are volunteers. They aren’t you personal mechanic or trailside snack provider. They are working to help make the ride enjoyable for everyone. If you happen to have a problem, they can assist you in getting to the nearest road or perhaps call some one to come assist you. |

If a sweep rider recommends you to take the road and get off the trail, there is probably good reason. They just want everyone to enjoy a safe and fun day. |

Sweep riders are usually familiar with the area and know where they are. When you think you are miles from the nearest road, they may surprise you by showing you a road 500 feet away that you couldn’t see through the trees! |

Bottom line if you are a new rider, listen to what the sweep riders tell you. You’ll go home having enjoyed a great day of riding and be able to come back and enjoy it again. If you are an experienced rider and make the choice to ignore the advice of sweep, you are on your own. Good Luck. |
